Kim Yong Jin (김용진) – Wound (상처) English Lyrics

Cruel City (무정도시) OST

Through the cracks of the concrete forest1
The wind’s deep, sad howling 바람의 깊고 슬픈 하울링 um
Drunk on lost fate
My shaking heart rings2

Even if I spit out bitter laughter, even if I swallow my tears
No one seeks me 누구도 날 찾지 않아

Love is dead
Losing the light
Love is dream
Even if I scream
I only hear the wind

Moonlight drenched noir3
In the city dreaming glittering dreams 화려한 꿈을 꾸는 도시에 um
Lips like bloodred wine stained with heat4 붉은색 와인을 닮은 입술에 묻어있던 온기
The name of love, the twisted world
Did they end like the wind5 바람처럼 끝이었나

Love is dead
Losing the light
Love is dream
Even if I scream
I only hear the wind

Breathing a cowardly sigh that will scatter in an instant

Love is wind
Losing you 너를 잃어버려
Love is dream
Even if I call your name 니 이름 불러도 oh~

Love is wind
City shrouded in darkness
Love is dream
Even if I scream
I only hear the wind

Notes

1 Literal translation: Between the (gaps of the) forest of gray buildings.

2 Edited. More exact translation: The depths of my shaking heart rings. tl;dr: The translation “depths of my shaking heart” is a little too melodramatic for my taste, so I eventually simplified it to “my shaking heart.”

3 Literal translation: Noir drunk on moonlight

4 tl;dr: Though using the word “warmth” sounds more natural, or conventional, I think “heat” is the better choice because it evokes connections to the English term “heat of passion,” which I think the lyric is implying (i.e. lust). Also, to me, it’s a simpler, “stronger” word. I also kinda wish I could of translated 붉은색 와인 as wine’s blood, or something a little more poetic and less redundant, but bloodred wine is actually the more accurate translation.

5 Wish I could come up with a better translation…
